What are your thoughts on AI in film? Is this just another death strike to the industry, or are the worries overblown? Would you believe AI is now trying to create actors? No, not Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, they are real people. I know, I can't believe that either. I watched that romcom they did and told myself no real actors would sing that song 'Unwritten' in every scene.
Particle6 founder Eline Van Der Velden just launched her AI studio Xicoia last weekend at the Zurich Summit, where she intends to create the first AI actress celebrity Tilly Norwood. The character has been seen on social media and YouTube, and for some reason is now being pursued by talent agencies for representation in Hollywood.
Van Der Velden talked about the change in interest from studios: “We were in a lot of boardrooms around February time, and everyone was like, ‘No, this is nothing. It’s not going to happen’. Then, by May, people were like, ‘We need to do something with you guys.’ When we first launched Tilly, people were like, ‘What’s that?’, and now we’re going to be announcing which agency is going to be representing her in the next few months.”
What demands will this actress have? Will she have her own trailer and specially designed meals? And would you feed her by throwing food against a computer screen? What if she decides to go method like Jared Leto? Will she force studios to bring her to life?
Is this just more terrible news for the film industry? Or a wake-up call to adapt? Comment below with your thoughts.
