If you had to choose your favorite Batman how many would choose Ben Affleck? While I would go with Christian Bale as my first choice Affleck would be a close second for his fight scenes. Ben Affleck opened up about why he's officially lost interest in superhero films — especially after his turbulent time as Batman in Zack Snyder’s DC Universe.

Affleck, who first donned the cape in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, reflected on his time behind the cowl with unexpected honesty, calling the experience “excruciating” and deeply misaligned from the start.

“It wasn’t just the genre,” Affleck explained. “There were misaligned expectations, personal struggles, and creative clashes that made it a painful process.” He even admitted his own shortcomings, noting he brought “a lot of unhappiness” to set and didn’t contribute the energy a project of that scale requires.

While Affleck’s take on Batman — an older, broken version of Bruce Wayne — had creative merit, he said the darker tone skewed too far from what audiences, especially younger viewers, expected. “Even my own son was too scared to watch it. That’s when I realized, ‘Oh shit, we have a problem,’” he said, highlighting the tension between the filmmaker’s vision and the studio’s desire to appeal to a broader demographic.

Now, Affleck is focused on building healthier creative environments through his production company, Artists Equity. He says it’s his way of avoiding the chaos of past projects. “I want aligned visions across the board — filmmakers, cast, and studio — so you’re not fighting the whole time.”

As superhero fatigue sets in across Hollywood, Affleck’s reflections signal a broader shift: audiences — and even former stars — may be ready for something new.
