What is your weirdest celebrity encounter?
Before Saturday Night Live fame, Bill Hader had a surreal early Hollywood moment with Cobra Kai star Martin Kove—long before Kove’s recent headline-making incident involving co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim.
During a 2013 interview on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, Hader shared a strange story from the late ’90s, when he was just 20 years old and working as a driver for Kove. “He got me lost on purpose,” Hader recalled, explaining that Kove disregarded directions and insisted they take alternate routes—despite not having read the script. The day spiraled into chaos, ending with Hader being yelled at for their late arrival.
But the oddest part came later.
Driving home, Kove asked repeatedly if Hader was angry and insisted on stopping for a treat. “There’s a McDonald’s right up here. We’ll get you a cookie,” Kove told him. Yet when he returned, Kove had bought himself a cookie and milkshake—and didn’t share.
“He just sits in the back and goes, ‘Come on, let’s go,’” Hader said. “It was the biggest f--- you.”
The encounter recently resurfaced following Kove’s removal from a fan event after reportedly biting Cobra Kai castmate Alicia Hannah-Kim. Though Kove claimed the bite was playful, Hannah-Kim told police it left a mark and made her yelp.
Kove later issued a public apology, stating he had “gone too far” and deeply regretted his behavior.
Despite their bizarre history, Hader said he tried not to judge Kove too harshly. “He might be a really nice guy… I don’t know what was going on.” Comment below with your thoughts.
