Which film do you wish Francis Lawrence would make a sequel to first? Constantine or I Am Legend?

Keanu Reeves fans eager for Constantine 2 may need to temper their expectations. Despite earlier excitement, new updates suggest a creative rift could stall the long-awaited sequel.

Director Francis Lawrence had recently teased that a sequel to the 2005 cult classic was “closer than ever,” with Reeves and the team “super excited” about the progress.

Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, best known for A Beautiful Mind and Batman & Robin, had reportedly completed a draft, and with J.J. Abrams onboard as producer, everything seemed to be on track.

However, actor Peter Stormare, who played Lucifer in the original film, has revealed that Reeves is dissatisfied with the current script. According to Stormare, Reeves envisioned the sequel remaining grounded in its original tone—"about demons and regular people."

Instead, the current draft leans heavily into high-octane action and studio spectacle, diverging from what made the original resonate with fans.

Reeves reportedly wants the sequel to maintain the spiritual grit and personal stakes that defined his portrayal of John Constantine. With the script now facing potential rewrites, Constantine 2 may be further away than anticipated.

The original film, based on DC’s Hellblazer comics, earned $280 million globally and grew a dedicated fanbase after its theatrical release. Whether lightning can strike twice remains to be seen, especially if the star himself isn’t fully onboard.
