The Vancouver Film industry started taking off when X-Files started filming in 1993 which kickstarted the city as a beacon for SciFi shows like Stargate, Sliders, Battlestar Galactica, and spinoffs Millennium and The Lone Gunmen.

Ryan Coogler is heading into the paranormal. While his new horror film Sinners dominates headlines and box office buzz, the filmmaker just confirmed his next move: a reboot of The X-Files.

On Last Podcast on the Left, Coogler revealed, “I’m working on X-Files. That’s what’s immediately next.” He admitted the project has been brewing for a while and added, “If we don’t mess it up, some of the episodes might just scare the crap out of people.”

In a surprising reveal, Coogler also shared that he’s spoken with Gillian Anderson — iconic for her role as Agent Dana Scully. While he didn’t disclose the nature of their conversation, the mention alone sparked hope for longtime fans that she may be involved in some way.

Originally announced in 2021 after Coogler’s Proximity Media signed a deal with Disney, the reboot had gone quiet—until now. Chris Carter, creator of the original series, previously said Coogler planned a more diverse cast and fresh direction.

With Sinners projected to open north of $40M and critical acclaim pouring in, Coogler’s creative capital is sky-high. He’s also attached to Black Panther 3, but says The X-Files comes first.

Best known for Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther, Coogler has a gift for revitalizing iconic franchises with depth and modern relevance. Now, he’s aiming to bring the truth back out there — and it might just be scarier than ever.
