Jonathan Majors’ ‘Magazine Dreams’ to Release in Spring 2025 Despite Controversies

Elijah Bynum's much-anticipated bodybuilding drama, Magazine Dreams, finally has a theatrical release date. The film, starring Jonathan Majors, is set to hit theaters on March 21, 2025, courtesy of Briarcliff Entertainment. This comes nearly two years after the film's acclaimed debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023.

In Magazine Dreams, Majors plays Killian Maddox, an amateur bodybuilder whose obsession with fame and physical perfection leads to intense psychological struggles. The cast also features Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, Mike O’Hearn, Harrison Page, and Harriet Sansom Harris.

Originally acquired by Searchlight Pictures after a bidding war, the film was shelved earlier this year. This decision followed Majors' conviction for assault and harassment involving his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari. Consequently, Majors faced professional setbacks, including being dropped from Marvel Studios as villain Kang the Conqueror and from the lead role in Lionsgate’s 48 Hours in Vegas.

However, Briarcliff Entertainment, known for taking on controversial projects, stepped in to give Magazine Dreams a new life. The studio's recent track record includes distributing The Apprentice, starring Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump.

On the same date, Disney’s live-action Snow White and Warner Bros.’ Alto Knights, featuring Robert De Niro, are also set to premiere, making March 21, 2025, a competitive weekend at the box office.

In his review for The Hollywood Reporter, critic David Rooney commended Majors’ performance, highlighting his portrayal of “the physical, mental, and spiritual anguish” of a man consumed by the pursuit of celebrity status and success.

Despite the off-screen controversies, Magazine Dreams stands out as a powerful exploration of ambition, obsession, and the darker side of the American dream. Whether audiences will separate Majors' personal life from his on-screen talent remains to be seen, but this release date marks a pivotal moment for the film and its star.
