When Donald Trump could be your last hope to keep runaway film productions from leaving California for cheaper countries, you know you're in trouble. Unless you are Kevin Sorbo or Jon Voight, Trump has about as much use for Hollywood as someone has for buying Jon Voight's 1989 Chrysler LeBaron.
In a new interview with Variety, Kevin Feige discussed why Marvel left Georgia for Pinewood Studios in the UK for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
“There was a time, which is not right now, but there was a time where we made that deal…five or six years ago where everybody was fighting for stage space in the great expansion of not just us but everybody. So we had the opportunity to lock up Pinewood, which is why many of our movies will be there for the foreseeable future.”
He also predicted that when Marvel returns to the USA it will be in Georgia or New York, which have better deals than California.
“My career of making these big movies, very few of them post the Phase One movies have been here and they moved because of the cost.”
Except for Wonder Man, which is about an actor with secret superpowers, was filmed in Hollywood. I'm surprised they didn't film in Vancouver, but Marvel probably doesn't want to put out the money for special cameras with rain-blocking abilities. Comment below with your thoughts.
