After years of silence and legal setbacks, Kung Fury 2 has burst back into the spotlight—this time via an unexpected leak. A wild 10-minute sizzle reel for the long-delayed sequel to the cult 2015 short film has surfaced online, originally on YouTube and now circulating across social media as copies are taken offline as fast as they go up.
Shot in 2019 with a reported $34 million budget, the film had been trapped in post-production limbo since legal issues halted progress in 2020. The newly leaked footage is described as gloriously absurd, even more over-the-top than the original, featuring time-travel, dinosaurs, and high-octane '80s action.
David Sandberg returns as writer, director, and star, reprising his role as Kung Fury. He leads the Thundercops—a squad of humans, dinosaurs, and hybrids—on a mission to protect 1985 Miami from Adolf Hitler, aka Kung Führer (played by Jorma Taccone).
The star-studded cast includes Arnold Schwarzenegger as a gun-slinging U.S. President, Alexandra Shipp as a fearless reporter, and David Hasselhoff as himself—who also transforms into the Hoff 9000, a sentient car.
Stealing the show is Michael Fassbender as Colt Magnum, the ultimate FBI agent. With a massive mullet, intense one-liners, and outlandish action scenes, Fassbender fully embraces the film’s exaggerated tone.
Despite the VFX being incomplete, the footage has received enthusiastic praise from fans. Sandberg confirmed the video’s authenticity, calling it an “internal promo” never meant for public viewing. He remains determined to bring the film to audiences, saying: “This movie has been held hostage for the past 5 years… I promise to keep fighting for it.”
For now, Kung Fury 2 remains unreleased, but the buzz is very much alive.
