I have lived off and on in Mazatlán for a few years now and have met many inspiring people who have worked in film, arts, music and sports. One of these is Manuel Rendón, CEO of Mazatlán’s Master Network News who has just reported that Mazatlán is setting the pace for urban innovation with the introduction of a game-changing transportation system. In a press conference that drew widespread attention, Vanesa Wong of OMO Mobility, alongside architect Raúl Ricardo Villa Vicencio, unveiled plans for Mexico’s first-ever integration of manned and AI-controlled drones for public transport.

This pioneering initiative, backed by El Encanto Developments, marks a historic moment for the city—and the nation. The system will feature both piloted drones and autonomous units operated through advanced artificial intelligence, offering a safer, more efficient, and futuristic alternative to traditional ground transportation.

The project aims to reduce traffic congestion, cut emissions, and drastically improve connectivity across urban zones. With Mazatlán as the launchpad, the city is poised to become a national leader in next-gen mobility. They aim to have the prototype ready by end of year. Information on fare prices and infrastructure will come at a later date.

This breakthrough not only signals a transformative shift in how residents and visitors move but also positions Mazatlán as a model for other cities in Latin America looking to embrace smart transport solutions. Mazatlán will be the first city in Mexico to take to the skies with this cutting-edge technology.
