Universal Pictures is gearing up for a return to awkward family dynamics, as the studio confirms that Meet the Parents 4 is officially in the works. The beloved comedy franchise that gave us cringe-worthy moments and hilarious family feuds is set to reunite its core cast, with Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner in early talks to reprise their iconic roles.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, the legacy of Meet the Parents speaks for itself. The original 2000 film followed the anxiety-ridden journey of male nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) as he tried to win the approval of his future father-in-law, the intimidating ex-CIA operative Jack Byrnes (De Niro).
The movie was a hit, grossing $330 million worldwide, and set the stage for successful sequels: Meet the Fockers (2004) and Little Fockers (2010).
Fans may be wondering if other beloved characters, like Greg’s eccentric parents, played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand, or Owen Wilson as Pam’s ex-boyfriend Kevin, will return. For now, their involvement remains uncertain.
John Hamburg, who co-wrote the previous three films, is back on board to pen the screenplay. While a director hasn't been named yet, original director Jay Roach is attached as a producer alongside Jane Rosenthal and De Niro himself.
With the franchise having already grossed a whopping $1.13 billion, this new installment is sure to bring more laughs, tension, and hilariously awkward situations. Get ready for another round of Focker family fun as Meet the Parents 4 moves full speed ahead.
