Emilio Estevez revealed he wrote a Mighty Ducks 4 script as a passion project to “make up for all the disasters” that happened during the Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Disney+ series. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Estevez said the spec script was a heartfelt attempt to restore the spirit of the franchise—but Disney wasn’t interested.

Estevez, who famously played Coach Gordon Bombay in the beloved 1992 film and its sequels, said his new story involved Bombay being lured back into coaching by original cast members Joshua Jackson and Kenan Thompson. The twist? He’d coach an all-girls pro hockey expansion team—after first being found coaching roller derby.

“It was charming, contemporary, and organically of the moment,” Estevez said. “But Disney didn’t want to pursue it.”

Behind the scenes, Game Changers was riddled with controversy, including Estevez's exit ahead of Season 2 reportedly over COVID-19 vaccination requirements. The show ended after two seasons.

Although Disney has shelved his script, Estevez's deep connection to the franchise remains clear. Fans may not see Mighty Ducks 4 anytime soon, but the coach’s heart is still in the game.
