Springfield Hosts An Unforgettable Bengals vs. Cowboys Matchup For “The Simpsons Funday Football”

When Lisa Simpson called pro football a “savage ballet,” she couldn’t have foreseen how wild that dance would get. On Monday night, fans will witness the worlds of The Simpsons and the NFL merge as the Cincinnati Bengals face the Dallas Cowboys in Springfield’s Atoms Stadium. This “Simpsons Funday Football” alternate broadcast will air on ESPN+, Disney+, and NFL+, while ESPN and ABC host the main broadcast, and ESPN2 features the final ManningCast of the season.

For the first time, an NFL game will play out like a Simpsons episode. The story begins with Homer’s hot dog-fueled dream, placing him with the Cowboys and Bart with the Bengals. Marge and Lisa serve as sideline reporters, guiding viewers through an experience that’s as surreal as it is exciting. The game unfolds between animated chaos and quirky surprises, staying true to The Simpsons' signature humor.

Behind the scenes, ESPN and Disney use advanced motion-tracking data to animate real-time plays. Thanks to Next Gen Stats and Sony’s Beyond Sports Technology, players’ movements are mirrored perfectly — whether that’s Homer fumbling or Lisa scoring a touchdown. Transforming The Simpsons’ 2-D characters into 3-D models was a major technical leap, but the results promise to be seamless.

Executive producer Matt Selman believes the event captures the essence of both football fandom and American culture. “The Simpsons and football audiences are American families at heart,” he says. The broadcast also features ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Peyton Manning, and Eli Manning, adding to the star-studded Springfield lineup.

Whether you’re tuning in for the football, the animation, or just to see Homer eat too many hot dogs, this unprecedented mash-up promises a prime-time spectacle like no other. Don’t miss it — a replay will be available on Disney+ for 30 days, giving you plenty of time to enjoy this Simpsons-style gridiron ballet.
