As whispers of a One Tree Hill revival continue to swirl, Tyler Hilton — who played the scene-stealing Chris Keller — is ready to plug back in and turn up the volume. Speaking with PEOPLE, Hilton didn’t hesitate when asked if he’d return to the series: “I’ll do any One Tree Hill thing anytime.” For fans who grew to love the once-infuriating musician, that’s music to their ears.
Hilton’s portrayal of Chris Keller evolved from chaos agent to lovable wildcard throughout the series. Initially blamed for the rift between Nathan and Haley in Season 2, his character slowly won fans over with humor, heart, and a total lack of self-awareness. “There's something about Chris Keller that doesn't actually seem like a threat,” Hilton says. “He's literally all talk.”
But what would a modern-day Chris Keller be doing? Hilton has a few hilarious theories. “I either feel like he's running some studio and trying to foster new talent,” he says, or perhaps something even more sitcom-worthy: “I always thought it'd be so funny to see him have to get a job at the high school as a music teacher and him hating it.”
The image of Keller reluctantly inspiring a ragtag group of teen musicians, while feeding his ego on the side, feels perfectly on brand. As Hilton puts it, “He somehow just keeps Chris-ing through it.”
Whether Chris ends up back at Tree Hill High or atop the music industry, Hilton is game — and so are the fans. While Netflix and original cast members like Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan continue developing the reboot, one thing is clear: Chris Keller’s return would bring the kind of offbeat charm only he can deliver.
