Director Sam Mendes is redefining the music biopic genre with an ambitious four-film project, each centered on a different member of The Beatles. At CinemaCon 2025, Mendes took the stage to announce the official cast and confirm that all four films will debut in theaters in April 2028 — a bold move fitting the scope of this historic endeavor.
The cast lineup promises a fresh take on the Fab Four:
Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney
Harris Dickinson as John Lennon
Joseph Quinn as George Harrison
Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr
This cinematic event marks the first time The Beatles’ story will be told in such a segmented and personal way, with each film diving deep into the individual journey of each band member. Mendes, who also produces through Neal Street Productions alongside Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor, teased that the structure will offer fans a more intimate understanding of the world's most famous band.
Sony Pictures is betting big on Beatles nostalgia — and innovation. Film head Tom Rothman described it as “the first binge-able theatrical experience”, a fitting label for a project unlike anything the studio (or cinema) has attempted before.
The films have earned the rare blessing from Apple Corps, the band’s famously selective estate, ensuring authenticity and access to the legendary Beatles catalog.
With a 2028 release date and a cast of rising stars, this Beatles anthology is set to be a cinematic and cultural milestone. Whether you're a lifelong fan or a new listener, these films aim to tell the story behind the music like never before.
