In a groundbreaking move set to light up the skies, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced a major partnership with drone show veterans Nova Sky Stories to launch a series of record-breaking aerial performances.
With 10,000 drones ready to take flight, Abu Dhabi is poised to host the largest drone light show ever seen, surpassing the previous record of just under 8,000 drones set in China last December.
This ambitious project isn’t just about stunning visuals — it's a strategic initiative to position Abu Dhabi as a global hub for innovation in entertainment and cultural storytelling. “By harnessing innovative technologies, we are finding new and immersive ways to share our vision and culture with the world,” said His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi.
Nova Sky Stories, formerly Ascending Technologies and later acquired by Intel, has been a leader in the drone entertainment industry since the early 2010s. Under the leadership of Kimbal Musk, the company has continued to push creative boundaries. “Abu Dhabi is at the forefront of embracing innovation,” Musk noted, “and we cannot wait to show the world what is possible with a fleet this size.”
The multi-year partnership also includes collaboration with the Abu Dhabi-based creative agency Analog, which will help shape compelling narratives told through light and motion in the sky. While specific dates for the debut shows have yet to be announced, anticipation is already high for what promises to be a visually stunning and culturally rich experience.
From tech and tourism to art and innovation, this initiative exemplifies how drone technology is elevating global entertainment to new heights.
