Alicia Silverstone is officially stepping back into her iconic role as Cher Horowitz for a new Clueless sequel series currently in development at Peacock.

The upcoming show will serve as a continuation of the beloved 1995 cult classic film, though specific plot details remain under wraps. What’s confirmed is that Silverstone will not only star but also executive produce the series.

Helming the project are Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, best known for Gossip Girl and The O.C., along with Dollface creator Jordan Weiss. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original film, and producer Robert Lawrence are also on board as executive producers, ensuring a legacy-driven approach. The show will be produced by CBS Studios and Universal Television.

This new iteration is separate from the previously planned 2020 version at Peacock, which never moved forward. That concept had taken a mystery-focused angle centered on Cher's disappearance.

Originally inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, Clueless debuted in 1995 and became a cultural touchstone. It later spawned a TV adaptation and countless fashion trends. Silverstone most recently reprised the character in a 2023 Super Bowl ad for Rakuten.

With Silverstone’s return, Clueless joins a growing trend of ’90s revivals, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Malcolm in the Middle projects.
