Marvel fans, rejoice! Chris Evans is reportedly circling a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for Avengers: Doomsday, set to release on May 1, 2026. While Evans is synonymous with Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, his potential role in this new Avengers epic remains a mystery.

In Avengers: Endgame (2019), Steve Rogers aged into an old man after returning the Infinity Stones and passed his iconic shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). This led many to believe his story was complete. However, Marvel’s ever-evolving multiverse has opened up intriguing possibilities.

Adding to the excitement, Evans made a brief but buzzworthy appearance as Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) in Deadpool & Wolverine, reigniting nostalgia for his Fantastic Four days.

Further complicating the plot, Robert Downey Jr. is also set to return, but not as Iron Man. Instead, he’ll take on the role of Victor Von Doom, the primary villain for the Fantastic Four series. The details surrounding Doomsday are still tightly under wraps, but with Joe and Anthony Russo directing, fans can expect an ambitious, interconnected storyline similar to Infinity War and Endgame.

Avengers: Doomsday will be the penultimate chapter of the Multiverse Saga, culminating with Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. This multiverse-driven storyline paves the way for alternate versions of beloved characters — meaning Evans could reprise his role as Captain America, appear as Johnny Storm, or even take on a completely new identity.

As anticipation builds, the prospect of seeing Evans, Downey, and a slew of A-list superheroes reuniting (or reinventing themselves) promises an epic conclusion to Marvel’s Multiverse era. Get ready, Marvel fans — the multiverse is about to deliver some surprises!
