More than two decades after its groundbreaking debut, The Matrix is set to bend reality once again — this time in a fully immersive “Shared Reality” experience. The pioneering 1999 sci-fi film, which redefined cinematic storytelling with its fusion of philosophy, action, and tech, will headline a new partnership between immersive technology company Cosm, Warner Bros., and creative studio Little Cinema.
Launching June 6 at Cosm’s state-of-the-art venues in Los Angeles and Dallas, the event invites fans not just to watch The Matrix, but to enter it. Inside a massive 87-foot LED dome, the audience will be surrounded by real-time visuals that extend the film’s universe beyond the screen. The goal? To make viewers feel like they’re stepping into Neo’s world — dodging bullets, questioning reality, and awakening from the simulation alongside him.
This is more than just nostalgia. It’s a bold move by Cosm to expand from immersive sports into cinematic experiences. CEO Jeb Terry sees this as the future of storytelling: “Instead of simply watching Neo enter the Matrix, audiences will go with him.”
Following years of dwindling box office returns and the post-pandemic shift in moviegoing habits, this experience offers something that at-home viewing simply can’t replicate. As audiences continue to crave connection and immersion, events like this reimagine what going to the movies can be — not just passive viewing, but active engagement.
Warner Bros. sees this as a natural evolution for The Matrix, which was a technological marvel even in its original form. Jeff Goldstein, head of distribution at Warner Bros., expressed excitement about once again leading the charge in innovative movie experiences. And for Little Cinema founder Jay Rinsky, the aim is to honor the original while inviting audiences to question their own reality — just like the film did in 1999.
Tickets drop mid-April, and with a film as iconic as The Matrix, combined with a format this futuristic, demand is expected to be sky-high. Are you ready to follow the white rabbit all over again?
