Did The Cancelled "Buffy" Revival At Hulu Need Joss Whedon?

What is your favorite Joss Whedon show?
Sad news for 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' fans as Hulu won't proceed with the revival pilot that was written and directed by Chloé Zhao (Hamnet) and saw Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising the title role with Ryan Kiera Armstrong as her daughter, who is the new Slayer.
Gellar announced the news on her Instagram in a video: “I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me. Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with ‘Buffy: New Sunnydale'. I want to thank Chloé Zhao, because I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots. And thanks to Chloé, I was reminded how much I love her and how much she means not only to me but to all of you. And this doesn’t change any of that, and I promise if the apocalypse actually comes, you can still beep me.”
The original show was created by Joss Whedon (Firefly), who was famously cancelled himself in 2021 after 'Justice League' star Ray Fisher talked about his toxic behavior on set. But it was when 'Buffy' and 'Angel' star Charisma Carpenter detailed the sexist and cruel workplace abuse that he really was forced to disappear from Hollywood.
But the question is, did Zhao have the horror and comic sensibilities that Whedon had for a show of this type? You have to give credit to Zhao, who was a lifelong 'Buffy' fan and directed a 90-minute pilot that she stayed with to get actually made. I'm not suggesting Whedon should have been hired, but if Brett Ratner is allowed to direct 'Rush Hour 4' for Paramount, it's only a matter of time before he will be back making shows. Good luck getting Sarah Michelle Gellar to agree to doing another revival.
