What's your favorite Batman film? I have to go with Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight which is probably the best comic book film ever made even though Man Of Steel is my personal top choice.
A highly anticipated free screening of the "Schumacher Cut" of 1995's Batman Forever has been officially cancelled following a cease and desist order from Warner Bros.
The event, organized by the fan-run platform 1995 Batman, was scheduled for this Thursday at Cinefile Video. The screening aimed to give fans a glimpse of director Joel Schumacher's original vision of the film—a version reportedly more introspective and psychologically driven.
Despite the fact that no profit was to be made, Warner Bros. intervened after news of the event gained traction. According to the organizers:
"The management did the best they could but they had no way to fight it and had to cancel the screening. The theatre weren’t making money off showing the workprint but it’s clear that Warner saw things a bit different."
This rare director's cut, which clocks in at 158 minutes, was previously shown to select audiences in 2023. It features extended scenes and deeper psychological exploration of Bruce Wayne, elements that were trimmed in the theatrical release.
Fans and industry professionals alike have shown support for the cut, with screenwriter Akiva Goldsman stating that releasing it would be a fitting tribute to Schumacher, who passed away in 2020.
To date, Warner Bros. has not indicated any plans to officially restore or release the extended version. Comment below with your thoughts.
