When you think of lifeguards do you picture David Hasselhoff's Mitch Buchannon or Dwayne Johnson's Mitch Buchannon? Whether your fan of the Baywatch show or the Baywatch film you probably have checked out the new lifeguard drama Rescue-HI-Surf on Fox.

As Fox finalizes its slate for the coming season, freshman drama Rescue HI-Surf is emerging as a standout performer among shows still awaiting renewal. While it hasn’t reached breakout status like Doc, the Hawaii-based first responder series has maintained consistently strong ratings, positioning it well for a return.

Produced by Warner Bros. TV and Fox Entertainment, Rescue HI-Surf carries the creative weight of veteran showrunner John Wells, known for ER and Shameless. That behind-the-scenes pedigree, combined with steady viewership, makes it a likely candidate for renewal.

Even with the highly anticipated Baywatch reboot on the horizon, sources say Rescue HI-Surf’s future is secure.

Fox reportedly plans to stagger the two shows, with Baywatch airing as a summer series and Rescue HI-Surf occupying a traditional in-season slot. This strategy could give the network year-round dominance in beachside action storytelling without cannibalizing audiences.

By leveraging nostalgia with Baywatch and continuing to invest in newer, high-performing IP like Rescue HI-Surf, Fox appears ready to ride the wave of first responder drama into multiple seasons.
