Did you watch the UFC White House card last Saturday? As impossible as this sounds, let's leave politics out at the moment.

So the show began with President Donald Trump and UFC owner Dana White doing a walkout from the Oval Office, ending with a military flyover. I was watching with a big group of friends at a sports bar, and when it started, we all groaned collectively. It felt too on the nose. After that opening, every fighter also had a walkout that began in the White House.

I've been watching UFC since the first event in 1993, and I am super non-political, so for me, my interest in watching the event was more about the quality of the fights than where it took place. From a film production background, I have to admit I was impressed that they actually were able to accomplish filming from there.

But the whole thing felt tasteless and pointless when, after defeating Derrick Lewis, fighter Josh Hokit took the opportunity on his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan to claim Michelle Obama is a man. It took a sacred ground and turned it into a hateful America. And I felt that in retrospect, the whole thing was a mistake, even though the main event between Justin Gaethje and IliaTopuria was a barn burner.
