Grand Theft Auto VI

Are you sad you have to wait another year to beat up Pimps, Hookers, and Cops?

The much-anticipated delay of Grand Theft Auto VI to May 2026 will deliver a hefty $2.7 billion blow to the gaming industry in 2025, according to Ampere Analysis. However, all is not lost. Industry spend on game content and services is still projected to cross $200 billion for the first time ever, driven largely by the launch of Nintendo Switch 2.

Ampere predicts modest growth of just 1% year-over-year—from $199.4 billion in 2024 to $201.3 billion in 2025. That’s a significant slowdown from the 3.5% rise seen in 2024. Despite the delay, analysts remain bullish on Take Two Interactive’s long-term revenue prospects, especially from GTA Online and live services revenue tied to GTA VI’s eventual release.

Still, Nintendo is stealing some of the spotlight. With its next-gen Switch 2 console set to launch on June 5, the company is expected to drive a $7–8 billion content opportunity over the next two years. Increased in-game monetization could also add another $1–2 billion annually.

Beyond new consoles, Ampere highlights untapped markets like the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia, forecasting $1.3 billion in regional growth. There's also room to expand in saturated regions by targeting underrepresented groups, such as older gamers and younger female audiences.

While the delay of GTA VI is a short-term setback, the industry is laying the groundwork for long-term, diversified growth. From better monetization strategies to holistic franchise expansions, gaming is set to evolve—with or without Grand Theft Auto. Comment below on your thoughts.

Honestly, hearing about GTA VI being pushed to 2026 hit me harder than I expected—I’ve been hyped to dive back into that chaotic world, and $2.7 billion lost for the industry really puts into perspective how much anticipation shapes gaming economics. Still, it’s fascinating to see how the industry adapts: the Nintendo Switch 2 launch alone could generate $7–8 billion over the next two years, and there’s growing attention on markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. While waiting, I’ve been exploring other ways to engage with gaming and betting trends, and I came across a solid resource where you can read a detailed review of the Melbet App in Kenya via melbet download. It breaks down both…
