Guy Ritchie Checks Out From Directing Road House 2

What's your favorite Jake Gyllenhaal action film?

In a surprising turn, acclaimed director Guy Ritchie has exited Amazon MGM Studios’ Road House 2. The sequel to the Jake Gyllenhaal-led reboot of the 1989 classic was a major hit for Prime Video, drawing over 50 million viewers in its debut and soaring to 80 million within eight weeks.

No official reason has been provided for Ritchie's departure from the project. However, the studio remains committed to moving forward with production slated for the fall. A new director is being sought, while casting for the sequel continues.

Jake Gyllenhaal is set to reprise his role as ex-UFC fighter Dalton, with the script penned by Will Beall, known for Bad Boys: Ride or Die. The film is being produced by Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment, along with Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories Productions. Josh McLaughlin and Ivan Atkinson serve as executive producers. No word yet on Conor McGregor's return as the villain Knox.

The first installment, directed by Doug Liman, premiered at SXSW in 2024 and reimagined the 1989 cult favorite starring Patrick Swayze. It followed Gyllenhaal’s Dalton as he takes a job at a Florida Keys bar only to discover dark secrets lurking beneath the surface.

Rumors are swirling that Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune star Dave Bautista may join the sequel’s cast. Despite Ritchie’s exit, Amazon MGM Studios remains confident in delivering a thrilling follow-up to one of its most-watched streaming hits. Comment below with your thoughts.
