J.J. Abrams Glen Powell

What's your favorite J.J. Abrams project? For me without a doubt it's Lost followed by Mission: Impossible 3 which probably saved the franchise from John Woo's lambasted second film in series.

After years away from the director’s chair, J.J. Abrams is finally making his big-screen comeback. His new, still-untitled movie has officially started production in London as of April 25, 2025, and excitement is already building.

The star-studded cast features Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey, and Samuel L. Jackson. While Warner Bros. is keeping plot details tightly under wraps, reports suggest the film is a nostalgic 1980s throwback, loosely inspired by The Last Starfighter. Rumors hint at a story involving an author whose fantasy world turns out to be real, sending Powell’s character on a thrilling adventure.

Contrary to early speculation, the project does not involve time travel. A Production Weekly listing once referred to the project as Acorns, but Abrams’ representatives have confirmed that the movie remains officially untitled.

This marks Abrams’ first directorial effort in over six years. The Lost and Alias creator — once dubbed "the next Spielberg" — had seen several of his recent TV projects stall, leading some to question his standing in Hollywood. However, with this buzzy feature now rolling cameras, Abrams seems poised to reclaim his place among top-tier filmmakers.

A 2026 release date is likely, though no official announcement has been made. Stay tuned — J.J. Abrams’ comeback story is just beginning.
