Do you remember the glory days of parents in comic book films? You know when the heroic Dad forced his kid with superpowers to watch him die horribly in a tornado even though he could have easily saved him. I'm not a therapist, but I think that could cause PTSD. At least the dog made it alive.
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD:
So far we have seen in comics and in live actions Superman, his Kryptonite parents Jor-El and Lara, are heroes on their planet who sacrificed themself to send their son in the space pod to earth as Krypton exploded. Why didn't they go all together in a big pod you ask? Moving on.
In James Gunn's new Superman film it's revealed halfway thru that his parents (played by Bradley Cooper and Angela Sarafyan) sent Clark to earth hoping he would take over the planet as its ruler. So they had nefarious intentions all along. Bad bad bad.
James Gunn recently addressed the issue with IGN.
“I’m a huge Superman fan, so first of all I had to trust myself that I was going to honor the pieces of Superman that we needed to keep the same, and also allow myself to make changes where changes might work and wouldn’t go against the integrity of who the character is."
"And so I think that was simply dealing with allowing ourselves to change part of the story in a way that was interesting for the DCU, but that wasn’t something that went against who Superman was. And is has been something that’s been played with in the comics before.”
For those who have seen it, does the twist make sense to you? Comment below with your thoughts.
