James Gunn Says "The Suicide Squad" Is DCU Canon

What are your thoughts on the Zack Snyder cut of 'Justice League?' Do you want to see David Ayer get a chance to do a director's cut of his 'Suicide Squad' that came out in 2016?
Let's get really confusing now as we talk about the sequel to that, titled 'The Suicide Squad' which James Gunn directed in 2021 and took place in the now-finished DCEU. Gunn was with his wife, Jennifer Holland, on the podcast, "The Suicide Squad: Is It Canon?" where they answered fans' questions about which universe the film is in.
"I think that The Suicide Squad is within the canon of the DCU. It’s decided. I’d say we have one small asterisk, which is what exactly is the future of Harley Quinn. I want to be given a little leeway with this by the fans because I’m not sure exactly how that’s going to manifest itself. But other than that, I think we can pretty much say the entire movie is canon. I don’t think there’s a problem."
"Maybe somebody is going to come to me on Threads, and I accept the challenges in trying to answer them…we’re going to make mistakes in this movie and in other movies, but for the most part, I think it actually fits much more easily into canon than Peacemaker Season 1. Not only is 'The Suicide Squad' canon, but it’s the first canon film in the DCU."
Gunn also confirmed that he wants Margot Robbie back as Harley Quinn even though she's connected to Jared Leto's Joker from the DCEU, the DCU Batman will be close in age to David Corenswet's Superman, and the Amanda Waller TV show starring Viola Davis is still alive, barely.
