Jon Bernthal Helped Tom Holland Land "Spider-Man" Role: "I Made His Audition Tape"

I think Sony messed up not introducing Spider-Man in their universe of characters like Venom and Morbius but I hope Marvel doesn't and instead introduces him in with the Netflix Defenders like Daredevil and Punisher. Although Charlie Cox cameoed in Spider-Man 3 it was as Matt Murdock in a quick scene and they didn't fight together. But the events in this season of Daredevil: Born Again will make that necessary as Kingpin has set war on all vigilantes.
Tom Holland’s path to becoming Spider-Man may have included a vital assist from his co-star Jon Bernthal. In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Bernthal revealed that he helped Holland tape his audition for Captain America: Civil War during the filming of Pilgrimage.
"We did Pilgrimage about seven or eight years ago. That was where both Tom did his audition for Spider-Man and I did mine for The Punisher," Bernthal said. "We actually made each other’s audition tapes on that film."
According to Bernthal, Holland was laser-focused on getting the role. "He really believed it," Bernthal said. "He kept saying, 'I am Spider-Man.' I was like, ‘There’s probably a lot of people that want to be Spider-Man.’"
But Holland's confidence paid off—and so did Bernthal’s advice. "I gave him the note, 'Tom, maybe you should run up that wall and do a double backflip and then start the scene,'" Bernthal joked. "He did that. It’s not that I take responsibility, but... a little something."
While Holland has gone on to become one of the most recognizable faces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bernthal also found success in the MCU as Frank Castle in Netflix’s The Punisher. The duo’s early collaboration is a testament to their talent—and perhaps to a bit of stunt-enhanced audition tape magic.
