KORN BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO BELOW ARTICLE:
One of my favorite projects to work on are music videos. On Step Up 5 I worked on several dance battle scenes that was pretty fun for everyone involved as it was fast-paced and high
energy.
Korn has always been ahead of the curve—from birthing the nu-metal genre to revolutionizing fan engagement. Back in 1998, they were the first band to livestream a weekly studio talk show online, placing fans virtually in the recording room every Wednesday. So, when a groundbreaking opportunity involving fan collaboration and new tech emerged, it was no surprise that Korn jumped in.
Their latest innovation? A never-before-seen project that invited over 200 fans to become filmmakers for a night. Armed with the Blackmagic Camera app synced to Blackmagic Cloud, fans filmed the concert from their own perspectives. The result? Over 11 hours of footage captured from mosh pits, global journeys, and raw fan excitement—all edited seamlessly using DaVinci Resolve.
The real power of this collaboration was the technology behind it. Blackmagic Cloud enabled lightning-fast syncing and handling of massive amounts of data, allowing editors to access and sift through fan-shot clips with ease. Instead of relying solely on professional crews, the team had a goldmine of authentic content that captured the energy, chaos, and emotion of a Korn concert like never before.
This project redefined how bands can engage their audience—not just as spectators, but as storytellers. By giving fans the tools and platform to contribute directly, Korn didn’t just create a recap video—they built a community-powered documentary. It’s a bold reminder that, just like in 1998, Korn still leads where others follow.
