What's your favorite Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese film? I have to go with The Aviator followed by The Departed.

In a surprising shift, Leonardo DiCaprio has stepped away from Damien Chazelle’s Evel Knievel biopic, citing a powerful reason — his long-standing allegiance to Martin Scorsese. The decision marks a significant pivot not just for DiCaprio, but also for Chazelle, the La La Land filmmaker who had been prepping for a summer shoot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio and Chazelle had been deep in talks for months, readying a bold portrayal of the legendary stunt performer. But in the end, DiCaprio chose to prioritize a reunion with Scorsese, the revered director behind Goodfellas and Taxi Driver, who is now 82.

Though details are scarce, industry speculation suggests DiCaprio could be joining Scorsese’s upcoming adaptation of Marilynne Robinson’s Home, currently in development at Apple TV+. While Scorsese also has a Hawaiian crime film with Dwayne Johnson on the horizon, that project isn't expected to begin production until next year.

Daniel Craig and Cillian Murphy are reportedly in negotiations to star in Chazelle’s upcoming untitled prison drama. The film, described as a “two-hander” set within the confines of a prison, marks a stark tonal shift for Chazelle, known for Whiplash.

As Hollywood legends continue to shape their legacies, this move reflects DiCaprio’s deep respect for Scorsese’s advancing age and unmatched influence — and underscores how personal loyalty still plays a major role in shaping the industry’s biggest projects.
