Marvel's "Avengers: Kang Dynasty" Plot Revealed Before Course Correction To Doctor Doom As Villain

When Marvel went from Thanos to Kang as Marvel's main villain I thought after Avengers: Endgame the MCU was pretty much over as films like The Eternals, Shang-Chi and series like She-Hulk and Secret Invasion were all lacking in quality and had no cohesiveness in continuity.

Marvel has made major course corrections behind the scenes, and new leaks give us a glimpse into what Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was supposed to be. Initially announced alongside Secret Wars back in 2022, the film was set to pit multiple Avengers teams against various Kang variants—Immortus, Rama-Tut, Centurion—while a revived Conqueror Kang returned from "The Beyond" for a climactic twist.

However, the lukewarm reception of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reportedly rattled Marvel's confidence in Kang as the Multiverse Saga's central threat. Legal controversies surrounding Jonathan Majors only accelerated the studio’s decision to pivot. Now, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has been shelved in favor of Avengers: Doomsday, a reworked finale helmed by the Russo Brothers and written by Stephen McFeely.

What’s more intriguing is the revelation that Doctor Doom was never originally part of the Multiverse Saga’s endgame. He was meant to be introduced later—possibly in the so-called Mutant Saga—as a villain removed from the timeline by Kang himself. Once the Kangs were defeated, Doom would have emerged as the “evil” they were trying to suppress.

Ultimately, Marvel has opted to bring Doom into the spotlight earlier than planned. The new direction reportedly borrows elements from scrapped drafts while pivoting to make Doom the MCU’s next major threat, setting the tone for the post-Multiverse era.

With Avengers: Doomsday arriving in 2026 and Secret Wars following in 2027, the path ahead for Marvel is dramatically different—but possibly stronger for it.
