Melrose Place cast

My favorite memory of Melrose Place was when on Seinfeld, Jerry's cop girlfriend made him take a lie detector test about whether he watched the show. While I won't pretend that you watched it, if you are reading this article then you probably did.

Three decades after Melrose Place first aired, original cast members Daphne Zuniga, Laura Leighton, and Courtney Thorne-Smith are back together — not on screen, but on the mic — for their nostalgic podcast Still the Place. Each week, the trio rehashes everything from wild storylines and questionable fashion to unforgettable kisses and off-screen chemistry.

But Melrose wasn’t just about the drama on set — real life often mirrored the show’s tangled love lives. Thorne-Smith, who played Alison Parker, revealed that she dated co-star Andrew Shue (Billy) during the early seasons — adding an extra layer to their onscreen tension. Meanwhile, Leighton (Sydney) dated Grant Show (Jake Hanson) before ultimately marrying co-star Doug Savant (Matt Fielding), even though their characters never shared a romantic arc.

“There was a lot of crossover between real life and the show,” Leighton laughs. “We were watching old episodes and realizing how many of us dated each other at different points. It’s like Melrose was its own little dating universe.”

Heather Locklear and Jack Wagner were another real-life couple whose characters also had a hot-and-heavy storyline. Even Zuniga, who’s a bit more private, joked about her long list of onscreen kisses, saying, “There’s only one guy I didn’t like kissing — but I’m not naming names!”

Aside from the romances, the podcast dives into some of the wildest Melrose plotlines — from cults and kidnappings to that infamous pool explosion. The cast has also welcomed fellow alumni like Thomas Calabro, Vanessa Estelle Williams, and Josie Bissett to share behind-the-scenes stories and personal reflections.

Perhaps most heartwarming is how the podcast has strengthened the bond between the three women. While they didn’t know each other deeply during the show’s hectic filming days, reconnecting now has brought real friendship. “At this stage in life, making new friendships isn’t easy,” Thorne-Smith shares. “But this has been something really special.”

As the podcast continues to revisit the iconic first season (and teases more chaos to come), fans are treated to the perfect mix of nostalgia, honesty, and behind-the-scenes scoop — from the best kissers to the moments that made them cringe.

With a reboot rumored and the podcast gaining steam, Melrose Place is proving that even decades later, Mondays (or any day) can still be deliciously dramatic.
