"Mission: Impossible": Can Any Actor Replace Tom Cruise?

What actor would you choose to continue the Mission: Impossible films with if Tom Cruise retired as Ethan Hunt?
For decades, Tom Cruise has defined Mission: Impossible, performing jaw-dropping stunts and embodying Ethan Hunt with unmatched intensity. But as Cruise approaches turning 63, the inevitable question looms: can anyone truly replace him?
Jeremy Renner was once positioned as Cruise’s potential successor. Introduced in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011), Renner’s character William Brandt was framed as the next generation. However, despite returning in Rogue Nation (2015), Renner quietly exited the franchise, citing scheduling conflicts with Avengers: Infinity War. His departure left Cruise firmly at the helm.
Now, attention shifts to fresh faces. David Corenswet, cast as Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming DC reboot, is gaining momentum as Hollywood’s next leading man. With his classical charm and action-ready presence, he’s drawing comparisons to a young Cruise.
Another name buzzing is Glen Powell. Having starred alongside Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, Powell’s charisma and action chops make him a compelling contender for a future IMF lead.
Still, replacing Cruise is no small feat. His commitment, legacy, and global star power are irreplaceable assets. While the franchise may evolve, fans may never accept a full handover—unless the right actor rises to the impossible task.
I personally believe Mission: Impossible should retire when Cruise is done, the way The Fast And Furious series should have ended with Paul Walker's death after Furious 7. Comment below with your dream casting.
