The Pacific Rim universe is expanding once again—this time on the small screen. Amazon MGM Studios and Legendary Entertainment are teaming up to bring an origin series based on the fan-favorite sci-fi franchise to Prime Video.
According to Variety, Eric Heisserer, known for Arrival and Shadow and Bone, is set to write and executive produce the show through his Chronology production company. This move marks a significant shift in strategy for the franchise, potentially setting the stage for future film installments as well.
The Pacific Rim saga began in 2013 with Guillermo del Toro’s action-packed film about giant Jaegers battling monstrous Kaiju. With Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba in lead roles, the film was a box office success, earning over $400 million globally. Its 2018 sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising, starred John Boyega and grossed $291 million but received mixed reviews.
This new series joins other Legendary Television projects like Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and Dune: Prophecy, signaling the studio’s commitment to building immersive sci-fi worlds. Fans can expect a deeper dive into the origins of the Jaeger-Kaiju war and the lore that has fueled the franchise's lasting appeal.
The rift is opening once again—and this time, it's streaming straight to your living room.
