Anyone who knows me that when I start talking about my favorite TV series of all time 24 and Prison Break are the top two. And now Hulu is breathing new life into Prison Break with a fresh spin from Elgin James, the creative force behind Mayans M.C. and The Outlaws. This latest installment has officially received a pilot order, marking a thrilling new direction for the beloved franchise.

While the plot details are still under wraps, this new Prison Break chapter is set within the original universe but will not feature Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). Instead, James’ vision will offer a standalone story, opening new avenues for high-stakes drama and suspense.

Elgin James is bringing his distinctive storytelling style to the project under his Sierra Drive production banner. He’ll be joined by executive producers Dawn Olmstead, Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz — all veterans of the original series. The project has been in development with 20th Television since 2023, and buzz around the script has been highly positive. Adelstein previously hinted that the first script was "really well done," raising excitement levels for what's to come.

The decision to reboot Prison Break comes amid a streaming resurgence. After returning to Netflix in July 2024, the original series quickly became the most-streamed show in the U.S., with nearly 200 million hours viewed over the year. This renewed popularity signals a robust appetite for the franchise and sets the stage for a successful new chapter.

Elgin James’ impressive track record makes him a compelling choice for this reboot. Following the conclusion of Mayans M.C. and The Outlaws, this project marks his next major endeavor. Known for his gritty storytelling and nuanced characters, James is likely to bring a fresh edge to Prison Break. Fans might even see familiar faces from his previous works, though casting details have yet to be announced.

Stay tuned — this new chapter of Prison Break could be the adrenaline-pumping ride fans have been waiting for.
