I worked with Shia LaBeouf on the Robert Redford film 'The Company You Keep' in 2012. It was on a set in Vancouver's city hall that was made to be a DMV license office. He had a funny interaction with an old Grip guy (on a ladder fixing a light) as Shia kept saying he looked like his Father. I don't think he knew who LaBeouf was, which made it even more hilarious.
Mike Figgis' documentary 'Megadoc' is a behind-the-scenes look at Francis Ford Coppola's last film 'Megalopolis'. Coppola self-financed it with a $120 million budget, which unfortunately bombed at the box office with a worldwide gross of $12.5 million. One revelation is that star Shia LaBeouf and the director were fighting on set after LaBeouf asked too many questions about the plot consistency.
LaBeouf was surprised Coppola called him "the biggest pain in his f**king ass." He said Coppola e-mailed him the next day, saying he lost his temper, and he did a good job even though they have two different viewpoints on pretty much everything. So does that mean Coppola would be on the side of the Decepticons and Megatron?
LaBeouf was cast after making amends with 'Transformers' co-star Jon Voight. Even though LaBeouf said he was nuclear and persona non-grata in the industry, two weeks after their conversation, Voight said LaBeouf was wanted in the movie. Let's be honest, LaBeouf always gives an exciting performance. His intensity in person is how he is onscreen.
