Who is hoping for Avengers: Doomsday to bring back the magic to the MCU after Phase 5 was a failure to both critics and fans?
Marvel Studios’ latest scheduling overhaul has caused a ripple effect across its entire cinematic universe. With Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars each delayed by seven months—to December 2026 and December 2027 respectively—fans are recalibrating their expectations, especially for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Originally expected to release between the two Avengers mega-events, the fourth Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film is now positioned ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, slated for July 31st, 2026. This places the wall-crawler’s return in a unique spot: leading the charge into the final phase of the Multiverse Saga rather than bridging its climax.
Fortunately, sources indicate Brand New Day will be a largely standalone story, and Holland’s Spider-Man isn’t expected to appear in Doomsday. This independence could shield the film from the broader timeline shake-up, allowing it to retain its current release date.
The new schedule also creates the longest drought between MCU films since the pandemic—spanning from The Fantastic Four: First Steps to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Meanwhile, Marvel has removed three untitled films from its release slate, leaving only one open slot on July 23rd, 2027.
As anticipation grows for both the new X-Men reboot and Marvel’s ambitious crossover plans, fans will be watching closely to see how this strategic reshuffling unfolds.
