What's your favorite video game movie? While technically it's not based on a game, I have to go with Fred Savage's 'The Wizard.' The scene where the Bully pulls out the Power Glove to play Nintendo was amazing back in the day. For kids today, that would be like TikTok lets you time-travel.
Hollywood Insider Puck is reporting that before Activision chose Paramount to handle the duties of bringing its popular video game 'Call Of Duty' to the big screen, Steven Spielberg made a pitch with his Amblin Pictures. Spielberg has made it clear he is a fan of the game and first-person shooters in general.
Spielberg scared Activision by demanding final cut and more control of the marketing. I can understand giving him full control of the film, but these video game companies are more in tune with the marketing for the desired audience.
Paramount CEO David Ellison released a press statement: "As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty, this is truly a dream come true. From the first Allied campaigns in the original Call of Duty, through Modern Warfare and Black Ops, I’ve spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love. Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we don’t take lightly.”
