"SUPERNATURAL" MONTAGE VIDEO BELOW ARTICLE:

After 15 years of monster hunting, Supernatural should have ended with Episode 19, Inherit the Earth, rather than dragging us through Dean’s anticlimactic death and Sam’s oddly staged old-age sequence.

Episode 19 wrapped up the show's biggest conflict—defeating Chuck (God) and freeing the world from his control. The Winchesters had finally won, gaining the free will they fought for. The episode ended with the brothers driving off as a Montage of highlights played, leaving their future open-ended, which felt fitting after years of battling destiny.

Then came Episode 20, Carry On, which tried to give the show an emotional send-off but instead felt unnecessary and underwhelming. Dean’s sudden and random death from a rusty nail during a routine hunt was painfully unceremonious for a character who had survived literal hell. Meanwhile, Sam’s aging montage—complete with a wig that looked straight out of a Halloween store—felt rushed and almost comedic rather than heartfelt.

Had the show ended with Episode 19, the last scene would have been the montage of the brothers driving off into the sunset, reflecting on their journey. The montage featuring moments from their past, set to Running On Empty by Jackson Browne, would have been a more poetic and satisfying conclusion. The Winchesters, finally free, riding into the unknown? That’s the ending Supernatural truly deserved.

Would you have preferred Supernatural to end with Episode 19? Let’s discuss!
