A few months ago I wrote an article about who should play the new Batman/Bruce Wayne in DC Universe's The Brave And The Bold and now I think it's time to cut Robert Pattinson's Batman's Elseworld's version completely.
The Bat is back... on hold. According to Nexus Point News and Garth Franklin’s recent report, filming for The Batman Part II has been pushed yet again — now likely to begin in early 2026. This comes as Robert Pattinson eyes a role in Dune: Messiah, adding more fuel to the speculation that Warner Bros. may not be rushing back to Gotham any time soon.
Director Matt Reeves reportedly finished the script in late 2023, but DC Studios has yet to officially receive it. Combined with a recent delay of the film’s release to October 1, 2027, fans are now facing a two-year-plus wait — at best.
So… why wait?
DC Studios should pivot and go full throttle on The Brave and the Bold, a project already teased by James Gunn as part of the new DC Universe. This Batman won’t be Pattinson’s — it’s an entirely new take featuring Bruce Wayne alongside his son Damian Wayne as Robin. The opportunity is ripe to cast a fresh face and move forward with a bold new chapter for the Dark Knight.
Here are three strong contenders fans are buzzing about:
Jensen Ackles: After voicing Batman in DC animated projects and proving his action chops in The Boys, Ackles has both the grit and fan support.
Alan Ritchson: Towering, intense, and coming off a strong run in Reacher, Ritchson would bring a physical, seasoned Bruce Wayne to the screen.
Brandon Sklenar: Known for 1923, Sklenar has a brooding presence and a grounded emotional depth that could make for a compelling Batman.
With the Reeves-led saga on ice and audience interest high, DC has the perfect window to strike with a fresh take. Gotham doesn’t need to wait — and neither should we.
