The Safdie Brothers Feud Caused By An Actor's Obscene Behavior On The "Good Time" Set

When you think about actors, directors and producers in Hollywood who were rightfully canceled who do you think of? Harvey Weinstein, Brett Ratner and Kevin Spacey are some names that come to mind. Weinstein is in prison, Spacey is still trying to come back, and Ratner somehow just got signed by Paramount to direct 'Rush Hour 4'. It helped him that Donald Trump got him to do a documentary film on his wife, Melania, titled 'Melania.' Are you going to watch it with all your friends as you would do with the Super Bowl?

Tatiana Siegel of Page Six has reported that the feud between the director brothers, Benny and Josh Safdie, was caused by actor Buddy Duress (real name Michael Stathis) exposing himself to a 17-year-old girl on the set of 'Good Time.' Duress (who was just released from prison in 2017 on drug charges when the movie was filmed) reportedly took down his pants in front of the teenage actress playing a prostitute and asked if "he could stick it in."

Benny was holding the boom microphone as Josh directed, and an on-set source said, “Any director who had seen that should have yelled ‘Cut!’ and stopped the scene, but Josh let it continue." The actress was said to have been immediately traumatized, while Duress would later die in 2023 of a heroin overdose.

Their issues came to a head in 2023, when in development with their 'Uncut Gems' star, Adam Sandler, on a new film, and their producing partner, Sebastian Bear-McClard, was divorcing actress Emily Ratajkowski, when reports came out that Bear-McClard had an affair with a crew member. The trio would dissolve their company, and the brothers would go on to direct solo films in 2025.

Benny went on to do 'The Smashing Machine' with Dwayne Johnson, which was nominated for one Oscar, while Josh would find greater success with 'Marty Supreme', which nabbed nine nominations.
