Tom Cruise's "Deeper" Put On Hold At Warner Bros. As Budget Reaches $275 Million

What is the first film set on water that comes to your mind? I have to go with 'Waterworld', which is probably the biggest film that was shot completely on the ocean. Having its set damaged three times by hurricanes off Hawaii is one reason the budget was overrun and became a cautionary tale for filming on water.
'Deeper,' starring Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas and directed by Doug Liman has found itself stalled before filming started over budget issues with Warner Bros. The project was greenlit at $200 million, but after reaching $275 million, the studio paused it. After the last two 'Mission: Impossible' films failed at the box office, Cruise's ability to ask for a blank check may be over.
Cruise is playing a former Astronaut who is trying to repair his legacy by undertaking a deep-sea mission on a recently discovered ocean trench that may have supernatural implications. It's sorta like P. Diddy going to the haunted home of the creator of baby oil to fix his name.
Whether Cruise can find another studio to help finance it, or if the project is dead, remains to be seen. Comment below with your thoughts.
