What is your favorite drama series that was filmed in Vancouver?
Some bad, bad news for the Vancouver film industry as 'Watson', starring Morris Chestnut as the famous investigator, has been cancelled at CBS after two seasons. The network will allow the show to finish its 20-episode second season, airing its series finale in May. The series began last year as a midseason replacement on Sunday, airing in the 9 pm slot after Justin Hartley's 'Tracker.' It briefly moved to Monday nights this season before going back to Sunday. Did you watch it?
'Watson' filmed at Bridge Studios in Burnaby using the same stages and sets that 'The Good Doctor' used during its seven-season run. I didn't work on 'Watson' but did on 'The Good Doctor,' and they had the nicest facilities in the city, including its crafty truck that I went to too many times.

The biggest reason the show is being cancelled is that it's CBS's lowest-viewing scripted series, averaging 2.86 million viewers, down over 44% from last season. Also not helping is that 'Yellowstone' spinoff 'Marshals' and the 'FBI' spinoff 'CIA' have both been bigger hits, leaving no room for the show. Which is crap, really. There's nothing stopping them from airing 'Watson' in the summer.
I guess I'm upset that this is another blow to the local industry that is already on life support since the Arrowverse ended, the union strikes and the Covid stoppage. We need more network shows that have high episode counts. 'Tracker' at 21 episodes in its current third season is the highest in Vancouver, with 'Fire Country' right behind, tying 'Watson' at 20. ('The Last of Us' and 'Shogun' both filmed for around ten months, even though they have episode counts of seven and ten.)
The official logline for 'Watson' is: "A year after the death of his friend and partner, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John Watson resumes his medical career at a clinic dedicated to the treatment of rare diseases. However, he soon finds that his old life is not done with him yet".
I get lots of messages from people on LinkedIn asking when the city will rebound back to how it was before Covid, and I tell them to pack their bags and go work on a cruise ship cause you might be waiting a while. Bon voyage!
