What film franchise do you want to have your favorite director make a film for?
Variety has a new story about how J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek' Kelvin timeline starring Chris Pine, Zoe Saldaña and Zachary Quinto is dead, with plans to reboot the universe focusing on the main timeline. There were rumors that Chris Hemsworth would rejoin as Captain Kirk's father, but the cast's pay rate was just too much to continue. The first two films in the franchise were box office hits, while the third's failure helped end the series. I had two friends who played Enterprise officers on the bridge in the third film, which was filmed in Vancouver.
Quentin Tarantino has long talked about how his script for the Kelvin timeline would have featured the cast in a violent time-travel mobster storyline. Tarantino is famous for saying his next film will be his last, as he wants to retire after ten films, so he dropped out, but with David Fincher directing his script for the sequel to 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood', that leaves precedence for another director to step in and see his script become reality.
But what director should be given the task? Obviously, someone who can incorporate both the sci-fi and Mafia elements. Someone who can go balls to the wall and doesn't worry about ratings. But who would that be?
