Why Did Michael Bay Leave "Fast And Loose" Starring Will Smith?

What's your favorite Hard R-rated film? Mine is the 'Bad Boys' series. Director Michael Bay, who directed the first two in the franchise, has talked about the scene that made Will Smith an action star, running through the streets of Miami with his shirt open in front of a palm tree and sun-kissed background in the first film.
I was looking forward to Bay getting back to Hard R films in his reunion with Smith on 'Fast And Loose.' The film was about Smith playing a man who wakes up in Tijuana with amnesia. He discovers he has two lives, one as a criminal head of a gang and the other as a secret CIA spy. It was written by Chris Bremmer, Eric Pearson, Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber.
Well, now Bay has pulled out from directing and it has to do with a disagreement with Smith on what the film's tone should be. Smith wanted to lean into the comedy aspects while Bay wanted more focus on action. This makes absolutely no sense to me, as 'Bad Boys 2' had one of the funniest scenes in movies in the electronics store. Why can't they just do it in that style?
It's rumored Bay is in talks with Paramount to direct another 'Transformers' film, either continuing his series or rebooting the franchise. I'm much more interested in reports that he will direct a film adaptation of the 'OutRun' video game starring Sydney Sweeney. The 'Transformers' films are played out, and quite frankly, my dream is a crossover film with the characters of 'The Rock' and 'Armageddon' meeting.
