Alex Palou To F1? His Indy 2025 Is Already More Dominant Than Max Verstappen’s F1 2023

What's your favorite auto racing movie? There's Days Of Thunder, Driven, Rush, Gran Turismo, and Ford v Ferrari. How many of you watched Alex Palou win Sunday's Indianapolis 500 and follow the sport?
Max Verstappen’s 2023 Formula 1 season was a historic display of dominance—19 wins, 21 podiums, and a staggering 575 points. His average finish? 1.3. It was the most commanding single-season performance in modern motorsports. But Alex Palou’s 2025 campaign is making even that look human.
While Palou hasn’t made the official leap to F1 just yet, his performance in the 2025 IndyCar season is drawing comparisons to Verstappen’s peak—and surpassing it. Palou has won five of the first six races, finished no worse than second, and is leading the points standings by a margin even greater than Verstappen’s over Perez in 2023.
What makes Palou’s run more remarkable is the parity of IndyCar. Unlike F1’s team-dependent performance gap, IndyCar’s spec-series nature levels the playing field. Palou’s consistency and pace in a series where margins are razor-thin speaks volumes about his talent.
Cadillac is set to join the Formula 1 grid as the 11th team in 2026 and has yet to announce its driver lineup, but if Alex Palou isn’t seriously considered for one of those seats, it would be a glaring oversight. The 28-year-old Spaniard already has valuable F1 experience under his belt, having served as a reserve driver for McLaren, where he participated in practice sessions and completed testing duties.
Palou’s 2025 may not have the glitz of Red Bull domination, but in terms of pound-for-pound performance? It might just be the most impressive start to a season we’ve seen in decades.
