What is your favorite baseball film? While most of you will say 'Field of Dreams', I'm going to pick 'Rookie of the Year' starring Thomas Ian Nicholas. That film was about a 12-year-old boy who breaks his arm and suddenly has the pitching power of Nolan Ryan and is signed by the Chicago Cubs. It's kinda like Donald Trump getting CTE and becoming the President.
Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) is teaming up with director Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused) to portray the life story of baseball star Lou Gehrig in a biopic that will cover his career and later death from the horrible disease ALS that was named after him. Gehrig was known as 'The Iron Horse' for playing a record 2,130 games in a row. He spent his entire career with the New York Yankees and died at 37 years old in 1941. Truly a fascinating person to learn more about.
Will Powell become the next Kevin Costner of sports movies? He was in Linklater's 2016 baseball film 'Everybody Wants Some' and starred in the college football comedy series last year, 'Chad Powers', which was better than it had a right to be. Where do you think Powell's career trajectory will go?
