Fans of the galaxy far, far away have a new milestone to anticipate as James Mangold’s Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi gears up to begin filming in Fall 2025. According to a recent listing on the Film & TV Industry Alliance's Production List (via WoR), this ambitious project will delve into the origins of the Jedi Order, exploring a narrative set a staggering 25,000 years before the events of the Skywalker Saga.

While the production listing is yet to be officially confirmed, excitement has been mounting since earlier this year when House of Cards creator Beau Willimon was announced as co-writer alongside Mangold. With Mangold’s latest film, A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet, hitting cinemas this week, it seems the acclaimed director is primed to make Dawn of the Jedi his next major project.

The Future of Star Wars Cinema

Disney has already earmarked a December 2027 release slot for an unspecified Star Wars film, and many speculate that Dawn of the Jedi could fill this coveted position. The film promises to explore uncharted territory within the franchise, offering fans a glimpse into the ancient lore and foundational principles of the Jedi.

In the meantime, the Star Wars cinematic universe is far from dormant. May 2026 will see the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu, the first of several announced projects from a diverse slate of filmmakers, including Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Donald Glover, Taika Waititi, and Patty Jenkins.

Sith And Acolyte Ending

The Acolyte ending had Emperor Palpatine's Master Darth Plagueis appear as a robed figure watching Qimir and Osha leave a mysterious planet. The Acolyte is set at the end of the High Republic era, roughly 100 years before The Phantom Menace so how Sith appear in the film is to be determined since it appears 25,000 years before.

Anticipation Builds for a New Era

With its focus on the origins of the Jedi, Dawn of the Jedi is poised to offer a fresh perspective on the Star Wars saga. Fans eager to see how Mangold and Willimon bring this ancient chapter of the galaxy’s history to life will have to wait a few years, but the promise of a rich, mythological deep dive is sure to keep excitement brewing.
