DJI inspire 3 drone

My favorite thing about flying my DJI Air2S drone isn't the flying aspect, its after in the editing program when I place it into my timeline where it fits into a telling the story I'm trying to sell whether its for a film or advertising commercial.

DJI has officially taken flight in the world of high-end streaming content. The Inspire 3 drone is now Netflix-certified for use in 4K Originals, making it the first drone ever added to the platform’s approved camera systems list. This milestone marks not just a win for DJI, but a transformative shift in how aerial cinematography is viewed in the entertainment industry.

At the core of this approval is the Inspire 3’s cutting-edge Zenmuse X9-8K Air camera.

Designed for professional filmmakers, it supports 8K recording in both CinemaDNG and Apple ProRes RAW — two formats that meet Netflix's demanding production specs. Complemented by DJI’s CineCore 3.0 processing engine and DJI Cinema Color System, the drone captures incredibly detailed visuals, natural skin tones, and nuanced lighting — all essential for high-end content.

But this isn’t just about image quality. The Inspire 3's flight capabilities rival traditional filming equipment like cranes and helicopters. With 360-degree gimbal pan, 80-degree upward tilt, and enhanced obstacle detection, it allows for dynamic and previously impossible shots. RTK positioning ensures precise movement, and the FPV camera with a 161° field of view provides operators with better situational awareness.

What makes this development even more significant is the changing landscape of film production. Netflix has been leaning into smaller, agile crews and versatile gear. The Inspire 3 fits this ethos perfectly — a lightweight, high-performance tool that enables cinematic storytelling without the bulk or cost of traditional rigs.

This recognition doesn’t just elevate DJI — it redefines what’s possible on set. Now capable of serving as an A-camera, the Inspire 3 moves beyond aerial B-roll to become a central part of the production workflow. DJI’s Production Camera Guide further streamlines the integration process, offering best practices for everything from on-set coordination to post-production.

This approval sets a new benchmark for drone technology in cinema, opening the skies for a new generation of storytellers.
