The anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to skyrocket, but it’s also creating challenges for modders. One such case involved a highly detailed fan-made GTA 6 map mod for GTA 5, which has now been taken down by Take-Two Interactive for being “too accurate.”

The mod, called Project Vice, was developed by the creator known as Dark Space. It used visuals from the official GTA 6 trailer and community leak analyses to recreate the upcoming game’s setting—Leonida—within both GTA 5’s single-player and FiveM servers. While fans applauded the effort, Take-Two quickly issued a copyright strike on the YouTube video showcasing the mod, effectively pulling it offline.

In response, Dark Space wasn’t surprised. Speaking to IGN, the modder acknowledged that his creation could have “ruined the surprise” of GTA 6’s world. “If you spent years building out this amazing game world just to have some YouTuber spoil the experience... I’d want it removed too,” he said. He even uploaded an apology video and explained that the mod was purely speculative, using public footage and leaks.

The incident highlights Rockstar’s tight grip on pre-release content. Since the first trailer’s debut in late 2023, fans have been piecing together the map and gameplay possibilities, filling the gap left by Rockstar’s characteristic silence. However, with the rumored release of GTA 6 Trailer 2 on April 1, 2025, the publisher’s decision to curb unofficial content becomes clearer.

While the mod may no longer be available, it’s a strong reminder of just how invested the community is—and how closely Rockstar and Take-Two are watching.
